How to Create a Vendor Credit for a Return

Why create a return credit?

If you need to return stock to a vendor for any reason (low quality, over-ordered, incorrect product, overpayment), or otherwise document a credit you have received from a vendor, you can do that from within the purchase order previously created.

To create a return credit:

  1. Navigate to Orders > Purchase Orders > All Orders
  2. Adjust the filters or search to find the desired purchase order
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click Return to shipper
  4. Select the items you wish to return. If you want to create a general credit, select the Credit to total order checkbox.
  5. Enter the quantity, and, if needed, adjust the Credit/Unit Amount.
  6. If you need to create a general credit, select the Credit to the total order checkbox instead of selecting specific items to return. This adjustment won’t impact your inventory or be factored into lot performance but will create a credit that you can later apply to outstanding expenses from that vendor.
  7. Confirm that the Auto-apply the return credit to this purchase order checkbox is set correctly. If you leave this selected, the return credit will be automatically applied to any outstanding balance on the PO it was created from. If you unselect it, the return credit will be left open and will be available to be applied in the future to any outstanding invoices from the vendor.
  8. When you're finished, press Create return.
